Thank you for yoru participation.

Hiyoshi Corporation is organizing “Seminar on Bioassay for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)” jointly with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Kyoto University, Japan, Kyoto University ASEAN Center.

Now a day the effect of dioxin-like chemicals and other Persistent Organic Pollutant (POPs) to the environment and human health are global issue. Given their characteristics, no one government acting alone can protect its citizens from POPs, the Stockholm Convention was adapted in 2001 and entered into force in 2004, requires its parties to take measures to eliminate or reduce the release of POPs into the environment. Thailand has ratified the agreement in January 2005 and is acting as its implementation plan.

Under such circumstances, bioassay methods for measuring dioxins and other POPs, which are rapid, inexpensive and high quality, are being focused widely in the world. These methods has been approved as official method in US (for sediment), EU (for food), Japan (for emission gas), and in Taiwan (for soil) and are also being focused in developing countries.

This workshop is organized to understand actual status and countermeasure of POPs in Thailand which is known as “the kitchen of the world”, the trend of developed country’s usability of bioassay for dioxins and other POPs, and promote its use more widely by spreading its usefulness and effect for risk management of food, biological and other sample matrix. As Kyoto University opened its office for ASEAN in Bangkok, Thailand last year, this workshop will be held by the experts who are leading in the related field of both Japan and Thailand.
