Introduction: During the Vietnam War, large quantities of herbicides containing polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzo-furans (PCDD/F) were sprayed in South Vietnam. PCDD/F concentrations in the South Vietnamese environment remained high after 40 years. PCDD/F analogues persist in the environment and are not easily metabolized; PCDD/F is lipophilic and can accumulate in the adipose tissue of organisms. To analyze Dioxins, instrument analysis is widely used. But there is a disadvantage that a large amount of labor, cost, and analysis time are required for the investigation over a large number of samples. On the other hand, the bioassay method can be expected to shorten labor, cost, analysis time, etc. compared with the instrument analysis method, and can also be expected to be used as a comprehensive evaluation method for dioxin-related compounds such as brominated dioxins which react to AhR. We measured dioxins in a contaminated area (Bien Hoa) and a non-contaminated area (Ha Dong) in Vietnam using the DR-EcoScreenHS bioassay.
